ePrivacy – Protecting children online against sexual abuse

The Home Affairs Committee today, Monday 7 December 2020, voted in favour of the temporary continuation of certain scanning technologies for detecting online child sexual abuse. This vote was necessary as these activities could probably soon no longer work without the consent of the users, due to a change in the so-called Electronic Communications Code, which will apply from December. After the Commission presented its proposal for the temporary solution in September 2020, I, as the European Parliament's rapporteur for the dossier, have led the preparations for today's vote. The next step are now the so-called trialogues, the joint negotiations with the Commission and the Council. My statement:

ePrivacy – Schutz vor Kindesmissbrauch online

Der Innen-Ausschuss hat am heutigen Montag, 7. Dezember 2020, für die vorübergehende Weiterführung bestimmter Scanning-Technologien zum Aufspüren von Kindesmissbrauchsdarstellungen gestimmt. Diese Abstimmung war notwendig, da diese Aktivitäten aufgrund einer Änderung im sogenannten Elektronische Kommunikations Kodex, der ab Dezember Anwendung findet, wahrscheinlich bald nicht mehr ohne Einwilligung aller Nutzer*innen funktionieren könnten. Nachdem die Kommission ihren Vorschlag für die vorübergehende Lösung im September 2020 vorgelegt hatte, habe ich als Verhandlungsführerin des Europäischen Parlaments für das Dossier die Vorbereitungen für die heutige Abstimmung geleitet. Der nächste Schritt sind nun die so genannten Triloge, die gemeinsamen Verhandlungen mit Kommission und Rat. Hierzu mein Statement:
